Financial Controller Vacancy

Job title: Financial Controller
Hours of work: part-time / 25 hours per week
Start: as soon as possible

Progressive, dynamic law firm based in the thriving business community of Brighton is seeking a committed, professional and commercially minded person to head up their accounts department.

The successful applicant must be willing and able to undertake a full range of tasks, adopting a hands-on, can-do approach, and be capable of working autonomously, using good initiative, but at the same time be a sound team player, with excellent communication skills.

The role will entail all aspects of legal accounting, ensuring compliance with solicitors' regulations; company secretarial; payroll, including monthly commission calculations; budgeting and analysis of variances; monthly management accounts. Of key importance will be the ability to clearly interpret the accounts, identifying key performance indicators and trends, and communicating this information to management effectively. Preparation of year-end accounts, allowing a minimal input from the company accountant, will also be necessary, as well as good co-operation with the accountants for annual audit purposes.

The role is a crucial one to the successful development of the firm and the successful applicant will be an intrinsic part of board meetings, strategic planning and business development. The role very much has the potential to evolve into a full-time finance director position for the right person; to that end a willingness to subscribe to the ethos of the company and be an influential part of the team and will be essential.

An accounting/bookkeeping qualification (e.g. AAT/ICB) or part-qualified ACCA/CIMA would be an advantage, but not essential; of greater importance will be demonstrable experience in a similar role. Exposure to legal accounting is an advantage.
